A UK engineering lab building modular field hardware. Small, focused, and building in public.
Every programme carries a revision trail. Every claim is labelled as verified or target. Built to be evaluated, not marketed.
How the lab started.
Flatline Dynamics was founded in 2024 by an aerospace and maritime engineer with a Bristol background and a long-standing involvement in gliding, diving, hiking, and field-discipline work. Disciplines where small components fail in cold, low-pressure, vibration-heavy environments, and where repair happens in the field with limited tools.
The lab exists to apply that engineering culture to field hardware that's normally built for it but doesn't quite act like it. Modular load-out systems where hardware is proprietary, spares chains are closed, repair classes are undefined, and documentation is an afterthought. Flatline's bet is that an operator with one tool should be able to service every part on every Flatline module, and that the documentation explaining how is part of the deliverable.

How we work.
Flatline Dynamics is a founder-led lab. One principal engineer, with collaborators brought in on specific programmes. Decisions are made by the person doing the work, not a layer removed from it.
That model has constraints. We are not a volume supplier. We do not have a sales team. What we have is a short chain between the problem and the person solving it, and a commitment to being honest about what the lab can and cannot do.
STUDIO POSTURE
Four principles.
Every Flatline programme answers to the same doctrine. The principles don't flex for scope or schedule.
Repair-forward
Spares and fastener discipline matter. Standard fastener sizes throughout, documented in the service annex.
IN PRACTICE / Sentinel HMD-1 uses M4 and M3 stainless throughout. One hex key services every fastener on the wearable. Keystone 25's hardware (buckles, sliders, cord-locks) is sourced from a public industry standard family. Every piece replaceable in the field with a multi-tool.
Governed claims
Public, validated, target. The /systems pages separate verified from target for every programme.
IN PRACTICE / If it hasn't been tested, it is labelled as a target. Without exception.
Documentation as deliverable
Interfaces, constraints, and revisions are first-class outputs. Every revision is logged in the Lab before the spec page updates.
IN PRACTICE / The lab note comes before the spec update. In that order, every time.
Constraint-first design
Weight, volume, signature, service time are leading variables, not trailing ones.
IN PRACTICE / The envelope is set before the feature list. Not the other way around.
What the lab does.
Current capability reflects prototype-stage work. Scaled manufacturing, field trials, and formal certification are partnership activities.

Assurance posture.
Early-stage lab, honest posture. Three dots is certified or complete. One dot is aligned but not yet certified. Zero is not in scope or on engagement.

COMMUNITY
Three ways in.
Programmes are in active development. Engagement is conversational, not transactional. Registering interest opens a channel, not a contract.
EVALUATION INTEREST
For UKDI Innovation Partners, Dstl evaluators, and prime contractor innovation teams who want to be on the channel when evaluation cohorts open.
REGISTER INTERESTTECHNOLOGY INSERTION
For integrators with a specific platform or programme where a Flatline module might fit. Conversations welcome at any TRL.
OPEN A CHANNELCO-DEVELOPMENT
For partners with a load-out problem worth working on together. Most relevant to Program 03.
OPEN A CHANNELThe work is serious. The documentation is public. The channel is open.
